Focus and Scope

The Lakehead Law Journal is a refereed journal published twice yearly and supported by the Faculty of Law at Lakehead University. An Editorial Team made up of both faculty and students runs the online, open access journal with Professor Karen Drake and Dr. Mariette Brennan serving as Co-Editors in Chief. The LLJ provides a forum for academics, practitioners, and students to develop scholarship in all areas of the legal field. The LLJ is committed to developing scholarship that engages with our tripartite mandate:

  1. To publish research, analysis, and critical commentary on legal issues facing Aboriginal populations
  2. To promote discussion and debate from students, practitioners, and academics on rural, northern, and small firm legal practice
  3. To publish legal research and analysis that is grounded in the region by focusing on natural resource and environmental law

Peer Review Process

Submissions first undergo an internal review by the LLJ's senior editors. If the article is of prima facie good and publishable quality, the article moves on to the external review process.

Submissions are then subjected to a double-blind peer review in which each manuscript is reviewed by two recognized experts in the field. To preserve the integrity of the double-blind system, the identity of authors and reviewers remain anonymous. Based on the reviews, the Editors-in-Chief make the final decision on publication.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
